In February 2016, provider UPMC agreed to pay $12.5 million to settle its involvement in a long-running antitrust lawsuit, with Cole’s Wexford Hotel Inc., the only remaining plaintiff in a six-year-old lawsuit claiming that UPMC and insurer Highmark conspired to keep insurance competitors out of Western Pennsylvania. No settlement had been reached with Highmark and the case is currently in discovery. Plaintiffs’ class certification motion hearing is set for September 19, 2018.
