Statutes govern short term insurance plans. An insurer who issues a short term insurance plan and undertakes a preferred provider plan must make sure that the plan is sufficient in number and types of providers to assure covered individuals’ access to all health care services without unreasonable delay, and is consistent with network adequacy requirements. An insurer that issues a short term insurance plan shall disclose to an applicant that the short term insurance plan does not include coverage for the ten essential health benefits required under the PPACA.
