Statutes require that the commission develop and promote a statewide program for the provision of emergency medical services, as well as evaluate the use of air ambulances on patient outcomes and develop and recommend statewide standards for the activation and use of air ambulance services. The goal is to prevent the overuse of air ambulance services, provide consistent and appropriate criteria for emergency medical responders, and provide appropriate, quality prehospital or pretrauma patient care.
