Statutes purpose is to provide reasonable standardization and simplification of terms and coverages of individual health insurance policies and subscriber contracts of health service corporations to facilitate public understanding and comparison. Statutes also prevent a policy or contract from denying, excluding or limiting benefits for a covered individual based on a preexisting condition. Statute regulates the establishment of rates for health insurance coverage in the individual market and prohibit a health insurer offering individual health insurance coverage from discriminating against any healthcare provider acting within the scope of that provider’s license.
