SB 96 authorizes patients to access information pertaining to their medical bills from doctors, hospitals, or other medical institutions. The measure also increases the base fee charged to attorneys and insurance companies by way of subpoena for medical records or medical bills from $10.00 to $20.00. The measure requires the base fee to be charged regardless of whether any records related to the request are located. A fee of $15.00 will be charged for a request for certification or an affidavit by the provider regarding the authenticity of medical records or bills.
