This bill requires each hospital to file a copy of its “chargemaster” (a uniform schedule of the hospital’s gross billed charges for services and items) with the Department of Health Services annually. It also requires hospitals to make the chargemaster available to the public, either by posting it on the hospital’s website or making a copy available at the hospital location. Hospitals must also post a notice informing patients about the availability of the chargemaster. The bill imposes a $100 per day forfeiture penalty for hospitals that violate these requirements.
