This bill establishes restrictions on the designation of new trauma centers in New Jersey. Specifically, it prohibits the Commissioner of Health from issuing a certificate of need to designate a facility as a trauma center if it is located within 15 miles of another existing trauma center. Additionally, the bill requires the Commissioner to submit any proposed request for certificate of need applications for health care facilities to apply for trauma center designation to the State Trauma System Advisory Committee (STSAC) for review and recommendation. The Commissioner cannot issue the request for applications if the STSAC recommends against it.
