On April 28, 2017, the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the District Court’s decision to block the proposed $54 billion merger between Anthem and Cigna, siding with the DOJ’s argument that the proposed merger would decrease competition and violate Section 7 of the Clayton Antitrust Act. Anthem appealed to the Supreme Court, but the petition was ultimately dismissed.
