RELATING TO THE USE OF STEP THERAPY PROTOCOLS FOR PRESCRIPTION DRUGS BY HEALTH CARRIERS, HEALTH BENEFIT PLANS, AND UTILIZATION REVIEW ORGANIZATIONS, AND INCLUDING APPLICABILITY PROVISIONS: Patient protection measure which requires that step therapy protocols be based on sound clinical evidence and allows for instances where an exception to step therapy must be granted by the insurer.

Enacted at Iowa Code § 514F.7.
